So, here I ask you, what do you think it went wrong? The premise is that they had a good foundation for the present and the future (JC2), somehow didn't improve on it very much and lose the charm along the way (JC3) and completely failed in delivering something people wanted to play (JC4). I don't know which studio worked on this, I'm betting New York? You would think they would have learned lessons from JC3, maybe they did (I honestly didn't play it), but what was gained in performance, was lost in graphic fidelity and quality in general (with a 68 on Opencritic)? At any case, it was a huge flop sales-wise, it was clearly rushed (to the point where they ended up re-releasing the game after expending half of 2019 patching it with better graphics, missions, etc). I actually really enjoy this one!Īnd then, three years later: Just Cause 4. All and all, people don't seem as interested as 2 for this one, it had worse reviews (73 on MC) and possibly worse sales (I didn't find concrete numbers, but given that they haven't said anything I'm going to guess it was enough to make a sequel but not as good as JC2). I played JC3 on PC, so I never bothered with performance issues, but I know the consoles versions were a DISASTER when it came out. This one brought two things to the gameplay: the sticky and customizable bombs and the fantastic gliding suit. It was created by Avalanche's studios in New York, not the main one in Sweden.

Good reviews (83 in MC), good sales: more than 6 million copies sold.Īnd then, 5 years after it, and with a new gen of consoles: Just Cause 3. Enormous improvement over Just Cause 1 (let's better forget about that game), bringer of joy and memes for years and years and years.
